Do you perform everyday? Is your delivery consistent? Most of us are faced with an important performance at one time or other. Maybe it’s a sales presentation, or a job interview, or a wedding proposal or a sports game.
Whether you’re on the spot regularly or infrequently (hopefully the wedding proposal is infrequent), it’s helpful to draw on something that makes it easier and that provides us with the confidence to be at our best.
For those who perform regularly in front of large audiences, it can be daunting to deliver consistently. That’s exactly the pressure that Yehudi Menuhim was experiencing when he discovered Yoga. Yehudi Mehuhim was a great American born violinist who started performing at age seven and never retired from the stage-he died a few days after his last performance at the age of 83.
On one of his trips to India, Yehudi met Iyengar who became his private Yoga teacher. Yehudi found in Yoga the tool that helped him become a better violinist-

Yoga calmed Yehudi’s mind before his performances. I believe that when our mind is calm we are at our best. I’m not suggesting that Yoga is the answer for all. I personally do not do Yoga and prefer NLP and meditation techniques. There are a number of techniques and resources that people draw from to reach peak performance. Some people work out regularly, others use guided visualizations, prayer, or deep breathing. Others like Michael Jordan used music to relax before a game.
It does not matter what you draw from to help you succeed before your performance as long as it helps you relax so you can focus on performing at your best.
What do you use to relax before you perform? What’s your Yoga?
